Walking with Jesus Through Suffering

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16

Studying Hebrews this morning, thinking about the significance and greatness of Jesus. Jesus, greater than the angels. Jesus, worthy of my praise. Jesus, the one who sympathizes with my weakness.

My mind flashes to the ache in my foot where the doctor skillfully and so carefully used the scalpel to remove the worrisome skin. My foot, pierced. My flesh, wounded. My blood, exposed.

I walk with the reminder of my suffering. Each step sends an ache through my pierced foot.

My Jesus takes each painful step with me. Tempted, tried, suffered. His own feet pierced through. His hands nailed to the cross. His side pierced through allowing the blood to drain out.

My Jesus, pierced.

His pain, His suffering, His sacrifice, so that I can read the words, “that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” and know that He walks with me in all of my suffering.

I walk with confidence in His love for me. I walk with confidence in His purpose for my pain. I walk with confidence in knowing that I do not walk alone.

  1. Yes, HE walks with us through our pain… Our LORD JESUS as our High Priest is fully acquainted with suffering beyond our own so HE can intercede for us… Wonderful reminder Lisa!… praying for your healing…

When I first got my job starting into the teaching profession, I had a preexisting
knee injury of a torn ACL so insurance wouldn’t pay for a surgery. I had trouble walking with excruciating pain for 3/4 of the school year. I prayed often and continuously for GOD to heal me. HE finally did. HE showed me mercy and I frequently give HIM thanks for HIS mercy when my knee hurts (no longer severely anymore)… Once I thank HIM and think of how HE has shown me mercy countless times, HE heals my knee again… I went years later to see about having surgery on it to repair the damage from years of playing basketball, but it cost too much. They found my old ACL injury and said I had a new injury in it called a bucket holder meniscus tear (yah -I didn’t give up playing basketball with it damaged). GOD has been so good to me though; it’s amazing… Not sure if this would be considered my thorn in my flesh, but it does focus my attention quickly to HIS wondrous attribute of mercy and to walk with HIM humbly…
